I just walked through the living room and my wife was watching a movie showing a string quartet playing for a celebration with bow and finger movements completely unrelated to the music they were supposed to be performing. They weren't even holding the instruments properly. Why on earth do studios pay millions and millions of dollars to produce movies and not worry about details that make even moderately  knowledgeable music lovers cringe? I'm not even talking about actors who need to mimic playing techniques for leading roles. These are extras who might only appear in the background for less than a minute. I'm sure there are plenty of real musicians available for hire that would make the scenes look more authentic.
Men profess to be lovers of music, but for the most part they give no evidence in their opinions and lives that they have heard it.  ~ Henry David Thoreau

Don't forget the Science and History lovers. The former are probably made to cringe a LOT more.
