Just Facebook. I'm actually glad no one uses myspace anymore (even though I preferred it) because it's more simplified now.

Even my mother (83 years young) tried to get me on Facebook. I deleted the invite without even going to look it over. :P

Nope.  This is as close as I get.  Dropped two other sites I post on and down to just two, this and the Hoffman (which I "in"frequent, but enjoy from time to time).  My wife and I may move in that direction once our kids get to be young adults and use them.

I have a wee array of the Social Networking icons below my last post.  I don't have a problem with it as it makes the post more interactive and if people want to publish my nonsense and drivel on their blogs and stuff, by all means...
It is also a colourful wee thing.

But its not under this post?   :-\
Dear Messiaen
WTF?
Kind regards, John

Well, I guess what I was trying to say was I wish for my life to be less reliant or dependent on technology.  I'm not ready to eliminate it completely from my life, but I just want to lead a simpler life where I'm not on all these social network sites or texting on a cell phone, etc.  For me, I don't need all that to lead a fulfilling life.

It just are different forms of life-style. I like yours also.

Yes I use them, no I will never use this feature. Can we turn it off in any way? Horrible to have it cluttering every post like that.

Agreed. I don't think it is a useful feature, I will never use it, and it just makes everything messy and "ugggghh, get that off!"
I appreciate the thought and the effort, though.

I haven't used MySpace for so long, I think my account has vanished.

I used Twitter very occasionally when it first started but got bored very quickly.

Facebook is the only social networking site I use these days. But only sparingly. I've got friends and colleagues who spend half their lives on it and then complain that they didn't have time to file those reports etc. Wankers.

Rob,
Instead of under the first post, or on top of every post, how about having it on only the most recent post? Then it won't disappear and it won't make me and Greg puke, but it will stay up to date. Don't know how well that jibes with your coding skills, it might be a real bear... :-\

It might look better (more seperate) if placed under the sig, and if the user has no sig, for it to utilise the horizontal line to seperate it from the post. Some older forum styles already had a panel of icons under each post, so it would kind of fit in with that. Or at the least maybe align it to the right, so that it's sort of "tucked" away (but still visible) like the quote and delete post buttons.

I'm using twitter and although I also have a facebook account, I only have use for its rss-like newsfeed from groups and pages I'm subscribed to (using hootsuite, so I don't have to visit the fb site at all).

PS. As for the current location of the buttons, I think it's just right and I don't find them obtrusive (them being placed anywhere, up or down - related to the post space - would be fine by me).

Agreed too. When it's only a the top of the thread it's not annoying, but can be useful. This forum is not an extension of Facebook, but has much more a community-character.

I forgot to give feedback on the concept rather than just its implementation: I do think it's a good idea, even if only for those few who use social networking sites heavily. Even if they only link off-topic threads, it could be that gentle introduction to the forum/genre that we all know is more successful than the hard-sell. Plus these kind of sites will only get more popular, so such a feature will never become redundant, and indeed it's nice to get on board earlier rather than later.

Just noticed this thread; I was in the Boston area when it was initiated.

I don't use any of the social sites, although I did register on Facebook to satisfy my grandson.

Speaking of Boston, it was very cold with snow all over the place.  I'm glad to be back in Albuquerque.
