I just got the cd, Fanfare: British Music for Symphonic Brass Ensemble (Chandos). I cannot listen until tomorrow, so I wonder what you think about Fanfares,... haha, or 'Wake-Up Music" as I like to call it. This disc looks absolutely delicious for breakfast: Bliss, Benjamin, Elgar, Walton, Brian, Simpson, Tippett, Rubbra, Jacob. bangers and mash!

There's another disc, 20 Fanfares for the Common Man (Koch), which has ALL the US Composers writing for squadrons of fighters and such like exciting stuff. This cd is going for waaay $$$ everywhere. :(

I think I even had one of those old Naxos fanfarey-anthem cds,... I don' remember.

I wonder if I am correct in naming this Thread Fanfares & Anthems, or, is putting those two together making all the scholar snobs snicker? ;D "Doesn't he know fanfares and anth... ??

Nice to see Brian's Festival Fanfare included on the disc.

Perhaps you could rename this thread Music for Brass Bands...
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. -- Plato

In which case there's Birtwistle's Grimethorpe Aria and Salford Toccata (no published recording afaik).

I know I've got a Brass Quintets Thread out there, I believe. I wasn't ready for a full blown Brass Band Thread, but I am starting to become addicted to it.

I have the PJBE The 20th Century Album, and Greatest Hits (both 2cds); the Amos, HM, Persichetti cd (now on Naxos); Hunsberger (Sony) doing Vaughn-Williams, Copland, Hindemith, & Husa.

The Klavier cd label,... Citadel,... there are many interesting Brass Labels...

One friend, who is a Brass Band Leader, has a thing against Ticheli,... and, honestly, when I think about it, there is also a lot of Yanni sounding dreck out there for BB.

I am very partial right now to Arnold's Symphony, and, to a lesser degree, the Schuller. Donald Erb also has a Symphony for Winds. Along with Persichetti, here are a few quite serious works for BB.

If, for any reason, we already have a BB Thread, could someone move us? Thanks.
