Yes, it is so wonderful that we have very close tastes! :) I really did want to include no.5+7! Choosing an absolute favourite would be very difficult, overall maybe 3 or 6. Too hard!

Yes, I always enjoy listening to those Liszt arrangments of the Beethoven symphonies, absolutely amazing! I am playing an eight-hand arrangment of no.1 at my chamber group in the Royal Academy of Music, really great fun! :)

Yeah, I certainly agree, choosing an absolute favourite is not easy at all; every symphony has its particular peculiarities, they all express particular feelings and have an amazing orchestration, great intensity and a beautiful harmony. What a genius Beethoven was!
Maybe I'm luckier, I can choose No.9 as my absolute favourite symphony, it's one of my favourite musical pieces ever written!!

An eight-hand arrangment? Really?? How amazing!! It must definitely be a great fun  ;)

1, 5, and 6.  Unfortunate to see the 1st getting so little love here, it seems just about a perfect piece to me, not revolutionary but who cares?

I am always the only one to vote for #2...

I voted for it too, because I think it deserves more respect. 3 & 8 are my clear top 2, but choosing a 3rd is impossible.

At the moment, it is 3, 7 and 9 (in order of preference)

I voted 3, 5, and 9 but it was difficult because I wanted to vote for 7 as well, that slow haunting 2nd movement in the 7th symphony is one that no other symphony composer (Mahler, Bruckner, Dvorak, Shostakovitch you name it) can ever match! BRILLIANT! and that's what you get from Beethoven.......BRILLIANT!

I can certainly agree, Beethoven was such a genius! no.9 is certainly a masterpiece so I can see why it is one of your favourite pieces of all time! I personally prefer 3 and 6 though.

It certainly is great fun playing the 8 hand arrangment, really enjoying it! :)

4, 6, 8 ... today.  All gems, all overshadowed by their glitzier kin.  4 especially is the Rodney Dangerfield of LvB symphonies.
