Last week I heard a lot of Kenneth Montgomery and the Ulster Orchestra.  Kenny himself is a native of Ulster, being born in Belfast.  The thing is, I had to post something about him here because I am super impressed with his handling of the Orchestra, and the Orchestral sonorities he achieves.  Last week, Radio 3 (UK) played a lot of works by Montgomery and the Ulster, and each time I thought there was something more in his output than standard performance stuff.
I will look out some performances over time and post them in WAYLT thread.  Just thought he is worthy of a mention.  The Ulster Orchestra have never sounded so big and wide, and they're all the better for it.

They have had some very good conductors too.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Kenneth Montgomery is well-known and well-respected in the Netherlands. He conducted the Radio Symphony Orchestra for many years and he still teaches at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. An excellent musician.
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. -- Plato
