Hello!

I've been a member of the GMG Forum before, but I've never taken the time to introduce myself.

I live in the Twin Cities, MN, in the United States. My undergraduate degree is in piano; I began work on an M.M. in Music Theory and a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology before pursuing a different direction for my life.

I didn't start collecting CDs until recently; while I was in college, I had access to the music library and did all of my listening there. Thus, while I am a fairly experienced listener, I am a relatively new collector! As of now, most of my collection is solo piano; I'm aiming to have a fairly extensive library of solo piano music that I can use with my students and have on hand for myself. I love the solo piano repertoire, but I also look forward to expanding my horizons, especially in the areas of chamber music and vocal music, both of which I am less familiar with.

I look forward to our interactions!

Hi admiralackbar, welcome. Love the Twin Cities; I get out there now and then to see some family and friends, and there's quite a lot of music to be heard there, too. Later this spring I'm hearing the Minnesota Orchestra here at Carnegie Hall.

Anyway, welcome and have a good time here.

Welcome! I'm looking forward to hearing some of your piano recommendations. Unfortunately, I myself do not play piano (yet), but my wife does and I enjoy listening to her practice.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Welcome to the forum. Who are some of your favorite composers?

The piece that first hooked me on classical music was Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto. I still like it, and I like Rachmaninoff overall.

My favorite composer in terms of overall output, however, is Brahms. I like pretty much everything he wrote!

And, obviously, there are plenty of others I could list, too!

Hello neighbour in MN, and welcome to GMG! MN Dave is also from Minnesota, while I'm just up north in Manitoba.

Brahms & Beethoven are my two favorite composers, which doesn't mean a heck of a lot now, because I listen to so many other composers.  It is almost unfair to single out those two, but there it is.

I hope you will browse and contribute to the forum on a regular basis!  :)

I didn't know you were Canadian. ??? Well, this changes everything!  :P ;) I love Canadians. All the ones I've talked through the years have been nothing but pleasant and friendly. Good people up there.

:D  Well, yes I'm Canadian.  There are quite a few of us here.  GMG really is a global community, and well represented by members all over the world.  :)
