It was with his recordings that I listened for the first time the trumpet in classical music, as soloist instrument. Concertos of Haydn, Hummel, Telemann, Leopold Mozart, the Septet of Saint-Saens. I saw him playing: there was a joy in the way he looked or played that I never forgot.
Another great great great artist that disappears, another great musical reference of my life.

!An exceptional artist!

As a teenager I was blown away by his Jolivet disc - those incredible high notes ( coda of the second concerto) , the softness of tone in the concertino. Heptade for trumpet & percussion (a great combination), Arioso barocco...

Hummel, Haydn, indeed, and that delightful Saint Saens Septet!. Suite in D major "dans le style ancien" for two flutes, trumpet and strings (Op. 24) by Vincent d'Indy.
