I had that happen to me a few years ago. I thought my alarm clock radio had woken me up with a certain song, but when the station didn't back-announce (there's a horrible neologism) the song, I began to have my doubts. I actually rang the station to ask if they'd played it! They confirmed I had been hallucinating (not in those words, though).

The morning after I posted this, it happened to me again!

This time I caught the end of some symphonic work which had very stirring sequences of brass chords. When it was over, it was back-announced as something by Tzhuu/Tju (sp?) Liang. I got up to write this down, so I would remember it, but after I had picked up a pen I looked at my alarm clock and saw it was two hours before the alarm was supposed to go off. So I had imagined it. Very disappointing.

The brass passages were doubtless inspired by listening to the finale of Schnittke's 3rd symphony just before going to sleep. Now there's a work that does exist (I think?).

Now you that wrote that, I could have sworn I had an experience just like that before. If it's the one I was thinking of, I had music playing in my mind and it was by Fibich, even though I never listened to his music before.

Well, I can't remember the details of that one- it's been so long. That might be it.
The other two I mentioned, though- literally like listening to a CD, which was pretty cool.
