Sad that such a masterpiece is receiving the only votes "against."

Very sad.

You know voting against a recommendation is merely an option - not required.

>:(
I disagree. These types of votes don't work as well if there aren't some that slip off. Otherwise, they all go on the list eventually and that is not particularly interesting in my opinion.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Lethevich

Indeed, and I'll vote down Messiaen, criers or not ;) By the same token I'll up-vote the Shosta or Schnittke PQs if anybody adds them, as those pieces I actually like.

Any democratically-chosen list will have ommissions according to the taste of various individuals, and while it's nice to think that we could just let the list indefinitely expand until everything hits 7 votes, it's more fun to throw in some controversy, and provoke some less valium-like responses.

Brahmsian

I'm not voting down anything.  No poo-pooing from this 'Nut.  I sent enough negative vibes with my Tintner rant to last me for the rest of the year.  ;D

DavidW

Lethe I almost put those PQs up (in fact I even typed them and then hit the backspace)... but then I went heck with it, there's time I need to help out my favs. :)

Drasko

It's much less interesting without negative votes.

I have no quarrel with "letting some works slip off."  That's not what's happening, though. What we have here, is a communal kneejerk of contempt, in the first page of the thread, for the most modern work in the list.

The less it sounds like Haydn, the easier it is to hate, here.

I thought putting Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence would cheer you up, Karl.  :)

Nice!

Okay, free beer to anyone participating in this thread who hasn't cast a Hate Vote!

It's a coincidence, I think. If I see too much Brahms or Beethoven on the list I'll begin to vote down.

Coincidence, maybe. It's helping me prune my buddies list, though ; )

Maybe it's just that some people of us don't think that particular work is as great as you think it is?  I would give an up vote to at least some of the Bartok quartets.    And I nominated Shostakovich SQ8,  although that was voted off the island within four posts, I think.    At least your Bartok has more staying power.  It is, after all, still on the most recent iteration of the list.

Amfortas

So let me get it straight: we can add 2 works every 12 hours, and we can vote against a work already on the list....can we also vote FOR a work on the list? Excuse my confusion  :-\

Of course. For up to two works at a time.

The board will be filled up soon (25 is the limit). :)  I'm glad to see this is working, despite a little bit of confusion.
