...a Franz Von Suppe' overture?

Good old Dichter und Bauer came on the radio this morning, and the above question occurred to me.   ;D

The classic cartoon factories of the 1930's and 1940's loved Von Suppe' overtures for obvious reasons.  Morning, Noon, and Night In Vienna, Light Cavalry Overture, Pique Dame, Galathea  etc. etc. etc.  Great fun!

So would you replace Von Suppe' with somebody else?

I can live with that. Recently posted that one of my all time favorite discs is this:

On par with that is Offenbach, who has a similar joy in his music.
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Those Mercury recordings with Paray and the Detroit Symphony or Antal Dorati had amazing sound quality!

...supper with Von Suppe!  Or 'souper avec Von Suppe'!

To paraphrase all the old music hall comedians (burlesque in the good ol' USA). The only thing better than a Franz Von Suppe overture is two Franz Von Suppe overtures.

Wow!  You are right!

Offenbach has been nominated as a contender: actually, I have no classical contender, but Weird Al Yankovic has some fun stuff!

No, there is not! Love me some Morning, Noon, and Night in Vienna, Poet and Peasant, and Pique Dame, and for a dark horse pick might I suggest 'Tantalusqualen'?

March of the Gladiators??... y'know, the 'circus' theme!

Any classical theme that shows up in a cartoon gets the vote, no?
