Well, well I guess I should introduce myself a bit. Currently I am a realtor by profession but my passion was and is classical music. I really enjoy old recordings especially voices from the turn of the century. Singers that I enjoy are Gigli, Ferrier and Paul Robeson to name a few. Classical movies? well all those Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy films, Mario Lanza films are part of my collection. By the way I am Chinese and I know more western music than Chinese music but I also have a huge collection of Chinese classical music on both LPs and CDs. Enough of this then which orchestra and conductor I really like? Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmoniker of course. Instrumentalists I enjoy include Janine Jansen, Mischa Maisky and my very favourite is always David Oistrakh. I am still looking for old movies and recordings by Paul Robeson and Jeanette/Nelson Eddy, is there a fan club out there some where?
Thank you ChamberNut for inviting me. :)

Greetings from Vienna, Austria, pymlee. I too am a huge Herbert von Karajan fan.  :-* Welcome to the forum.  8)

Again, welcome pymlee!  Nice to have another fellow Winnipegger on board participating.  :)

There are many avid fans of the old classic movies, and fans of Chinese music as well.  Well, it almost goes without saying that if you are a fan of 'anything you can think of under the sun', chances are there are other folks on here who will be fans as well!   :D

I realise I have been woefully remiss in my new-member-welcoming duties, least of all on account of my not having been around much, the last couple of years. Nonetheless, this man clearly deserves a welcome aboard!  8)

Hello, pymlee, and welcome. Winnipeg is a lovely city; I went there a number of times back in the 1980s when my father lived there for awhile. And I'm a big fan of contemporary Chinese composers, e.g. Huang Ruo, Qigang Chen, and Ge Gan-ru.

Anyway, enjoy yourself here!

Thank you for all these wonderful welcome. I have been in Winnipeg for more than 40 years and I just began to collect and enjoy Chinese Classical Music especially those old movie tunes. Any way Winnipeg is a lovely city but unfortunately it is not easy to get good classical recording here as all the good music store that sell classical music are gone. I am holding onto some of my very favourite recordings right now. As I mentioned I really enjoy the artistry of David Oistrakh so I keep on searching for his recordings. I am still searching for his second recording of the Khachaturian violin concerto. Is there anyone out there who has a copy? I will be happy to swap with you, either LP or CD. Merci Beau Coup!
