Archaic Torso of Apollo

I have just acquired a turntable, and have been enjoying listening to my old record collection, which had been languishing in my parents' basement for years.

However, if I would like to buy some more records - what are the best sources for buying vinyl classical LPs online? Would like to hear input from anyone with experience in this area.

Wow, the silence is deafening. I know there are a few vinylists on this board!

Does anyone have any experience with Discogs? http://www.discogs.com/

When I buy vinyl, I usually buy from local used shops where I can take a peek at the records before buying.  That written, Irvington Music is one online shop - that happens to be about 45 minutes away - that I've been meaning to buy from.  They have something like 32000 titles on LP.  The last update was from late March, but don't let that dissuade you.

Thanks to both of you. I'll check out Dusty Grooves. There is also Reckless Records, which has 3 (count 'em!) outlets around here; but shopping there is a very hit-or-miss thing, and I don't often get the opportunity to go there. Hence my interest in online sources.

I've been looking this one over. Looks like a good shop - I've already found several obscure LPs there that I want, some of them still factory sealed.

Only way to go.  Rarely to I go for something on the internet, unless it is a new pressing.  Have fun and complete coolness!

Worth mentioning for those in the Chicago area. The audio store I bought my turntable from turns out to have a large stock of classical vinyl, most of it in mint or near-mint condition. For some reason, they don't advertise it on their website. But I walked in there today and walked out with 3 items (Scherchen's Musical Offering, Schuricht's Bruckner 9, and Mozart's "Haydn" Quartets by Quartetto Italiano).

The relevant store is the one in Libertyville, in the northern suburbs:

I've had good luck shopping online with them.

You can visit their showroom in Chicago.

Worth signing up to receive their excellent catalog. . .

Also, congrats on the new vinyl purchases!

This is the norm of many stores.  Just a matter who the crew was that priced it.  At one store here, their classical lps are a $1 each.  At another, around $3 to $5.  And yet another, well they think they have GOLD, so it just sits and collects dust over the years. :)

I just got my first shipment from Irvington Music, and give them my thumbs up. All 5 records I ordered arrived in exactly the condition described on their website, and service was quick and efficient.

Good to know.  They do have a nice selection, and all feedback I've read has been good.
