Yeah we all know that you're playing devil's advocate! :D

A person doesn't generally get far intellectually by just thinking his same old favorite thoughts over and over :)

But it is germane.  Some guy said "the internet" and then you misread him to mean "this thread", I'm simply correcting you, and elaborating on what he was probably thinking about.  TC is not alone either, there are strong anti-modernist vibes on most classical music internet forums.

Understood. I have no inherent problem with a strong anti-modernist vibe or anti-traditionalist vibe as long as people are not intentionally spreading misinformation or lies to support their points. Be fair to what you dislike.

That said, I will say that promoting modernist/avant-garde/contemporary works or aesthetic principles is probably doing better work than someone advocating earlier ones, simply because the earlier ones don't really need the support.

I'm not so sure. We live in a culture that obsesses over new, new, new, novel, novel, novel, with popular entertainment cycling by at an ever-increasing speed. One of the beautiful things about classical music culture is that is normal and desirable (in most quarters) that great art from the past should still be enjoyed and celebrated today, treating it as ever-relevant and valid.

I wonder what the prevalent attitude is amongst teachers of musical composition?
