Hello, new member here.

I found this wonderous place when searching for reviews on Natanael Berg. I had almost given up when I clicked on a link that lead me here.

I have a fascination with works for piano and orchestra, but particularly those from the Romantic era or those composed in that style.

Look forward to some interesting discussions.

Thanks Bruce.

I have just noted that Thalberg yields a nil return on this forum.

What kind of place is this? ;D

Well, the only one I could imagine is Irving Thalberg, so if you are so inclined, by all means start a thread!  ;D

Who? I think he means Sigismond.

Welcome thalbergmad! Just say 'piano' and 'romantic' and I'm there! And I have a couple of Thalberg albums (from Naxos). I cannot remember if others here ever listened, but then you will bringing a new compsoer to the forum, and that is always pretty great (except for the wallet maybe).
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

It is true that a new composer can have an adverse effect on the wallet ;D, but at least the Naxos disks are a hell of a lot cheaper than they were when first issued on the Marco Polo label.

I rather hope you have the Bellini transcriptions disk, as I have always felt they were his best. Accepting of course the melodies were not Thalbergs.

Not yet. I have the Rossini and his piano concerto disc. But Bellini is on my wishlist (a rather long list, but he's there)!

For you whippersnappers out there:

Irving Thalberg was the #2 man at MGM in the 1930's, and produced some of their best movies.  One of his accomplishments: he lured the Marx Brothers away from Paramount.

I believe he died during the later 1930's.

And Groucho told a wonderful story of Thalberg regularly keeping them waiting, a practice which culminated in Thalberg arriving at his office one day to find the Marx Bros al fresco, roasting potatoes that they got from the commissary in his fireplace.

Thal
Actually, it's the kind of place that has a quirky search function. If you are viewing a thread, and you search using the box at the top right of the page, then the search only covers the thread you are viewing. To search the whole forum, either initiate your search from an index page, or use the more detailed "Search" link on the left near the top (it appears in a row with other links: Home Help Search Profile ...).

Anyway, welcome to the forum!
