That's on my netflix qwickster queue Dave. :)

Cool! I paid too much for my copy so I hope I like it. There's always the chance I won't like it but to tell the truth there are hardly any in this genre that I totally dislike. I'm a sucker for 'em I guess, just like I am for superhero movies.

If any films that includes sword fighting can be included, that would actually cover a huge range of films - even Star Wars.

But let's not forget THE CRIMSON PERMANENT ASSURANCE!

And with Rip Torn!!!!!  (Cato's Rule: Any movie with Rip Torn cannot be half bad!   ;D   )

I have found the exception to Cato's Rule: The Beastmaster   ;D

Nevertheless, this is one of my favorite Sword and Sorcery movies because Tanya Roberts is in it.

I haven't seen that one in a while.

That could never have been a practical garment.

Not that one need be practical all the time, to be sure.

You could try this:

Of classic Hollywood swashbucklers Scaramouche (probably still the longest fencing scene), Flame and the Arrow and Crimson Pirate (sword & trapeze sub-genre), Italians made tons of sword & sandal stuff, just google Steve Reeves, or Il Corsaro Nero and Sandokan series with Kabir Bedi (though production values are often on the low side), of japanese movies The Sword of Doom is not to be missed, and I think you'd enjoy Lady Snowblood, not so sure about Samurai Rebellion and Harakiri (sword & drama, but more drama than sword). There are few recent movies that probably aren't very good but I enjoyed for odd reasons: King Arthur (Stellan Skarsgard is awesome, and then there is Keira Knightley) and two with interesting atmosphere more than anything else -  Alatriste and Valhalla Rising.

edit: actually scratch Valhalla Rising, that was predominantly boring.

Don't be hatin' on The Beastmaster.  Back when it was fresh, HBO was nicknamed Hey, Beastmaster's On.  Where is Marc Singer these days?

I remember enjoying it but I haven't seen it in a looong time.

Man, the great days were when HBO ran Beastmaster back-to-back with Krull!

This is forthcoming as well. I was crazy about Edgar Rice Burroughs as a kid. Especially Tarzan.
