Don't be hatin' on The Beastmaster.

Oh, I don't hate it! Quite the contrary: it has Tanya Roberts. Any film with Tanya Roberts gets a five star rating from me. I even love Sheena  8)

Mahler, you ought to go see it.

Dude, it's got a young Qui-Gon Jinn!

And a cyclops!

One can smell the Velveeta.

Nice!

What about the Gerard Butler"epique"   300 ?

Any fans?

Apparently a kind of partner movie is due out on November 11th: Immortals.

It's so bad I couldn't watch more than 20 minutes of it.  Immortals, though, is directed by Tarsem Singh, and may have some redeeming features.

I watched 300 all the way through and had a good time. But I think I'd just read Pressfield's Gates of Fire so had some interest in watching this version of the battle. 300 is based on a Frank Miller graphic novel, the same guy who wrote The Dark Knight Returns (Batman) and other good comic book stuff.

I thought 300 was visually interesting and kind of fun the first time through. It's also so very rife for parody, and I actually prefer the impressively stupid, vapid spoof

Same story but with Carmen Electra and a few good jokes :P

Either way, Pressfield's finely crafted book Gates of Fire is a much better, smarter alternative to 300.

Yep.

Definitely. Have you read any of his other books? Thoughts?

I haven't but hope to. I was very impressed with Gates of Fire, a smart, literate page-turner. Unlike 300, which stays true to the simple archetypes of comic books, Pressfield really humanizes the warriors and fleshes out their culture.

Any mention of Tarsem Singh is an excuse to ask the general readership what they think of The Fall.

Saw an ad for this last night. Does not look promising at all, based on that admittedly scanty information.

Todd will be happy to know that there will be a THOR 2.

Well, Captain American wasn't bad but it wasn't ALL THAT either. It's rather goofy with its super-nazis.
