You know, action, adventure, ... swords.

Thanks.

Ben-Hur, Braveheart, El Cid, Excalibur, Henry V *, King Arthur, Spartacus, The War Lord,.

* Either version: Olivier's or Branagh's.
"Meet Miss Ruth Sherwood, from Columbus, Ohio, the Middle of the Universe!"

Nice thread, I'm looking for recs here too. The high fantasy ones that stand out for me at the moment are the first Conan film, Excalibur, Highlander, and Lord of the Rings. All different styles, but all go all-out with what they do - there isn't a sense of Shakespearian actors dicking around in a Welsh castle. The sad thing with this genre is that there is nowhere else to turn after these. I mean - the sequels, or Krull? No ty :(

A lot of other sword and shield themed films have bad choreography or action and their setting is used as a backdrop... For example, as much as I like A Game of Thrones, I don't watch it for its action sequences.
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

Don't forget the classic swashbucklers like

You might try Wolfhound. I'll try to think of other ones later.

Let us not forget some of the samurai films from this cool dude:

Yes, as it was that carelessly slain historian which set the hunt in motion which draws the shenanigans to a halt!

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

The Lord of the Rings, Hamlet, Robin Hood, El Cid and Braveheart.

Leaving out those that have already been mentioned (and keeping the list manageable):

Comedy: Court Jester. Magnificant! Vessel with the pestle or flagon with the dragon!?!? Did the Duke dive at the Doge with a dirk?
Comedy: Princess Bride (your intellect is truly dizzying)! Another great one. (just posted ahead of me, but I can't get myself to delete it).
Sean Connery: Sword of the Valiant: The Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight - always had a soft spot for this one
Silent: Thief of Baghdad (had to mention one of the Douglas Fairbanks Jr. films)
French: Le Bossu (great swashbuckling film - one of my favorites - some plot elements only the French could pull off, but works well anyway).
Nifty Sword Fight: Captain Blood
Cult Classic (and not too much swordwork, but lots of fantasy): Dragonslayer
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Mn Dave

I enjoy many of those listed above. And there are some I need to check out.

Just bought this one but have not viewed it yet.
