Thanks for letting us know, Cesar - I miss talking with John as well.

Quote from: prémont on April 26, 2024, 09:44:45 AMLike you I miss him, but maybe the situation is not that bad. After all Sarge was last active March 23. 2024. But his postings during the last year have been few. As far as I know he is about 75 years of age.
I remember the Sarge's warmth when I re-emerged after my stroke, especially, so I am for him. As we all are, in sooth.

It would be neat if he reconsidered and came back despite some differences with other members.

I recall that in recent years the Sarge's participation has been intermittent, and I think I recall him commenting that he found himself listing to a lot less classical music than he used to. I also seem to recall the Sarge revealing that he had been treated for a heart aliment. I wish him the best, and nothing here would make me happier to seeing the Sarge resume a high level of participation.

Aren't we all forgetting how much havoc he created and how many people on GMG were victims of his behaviour. Does anyone remember the fights and arguments? So I may be a lonely voice, but I rather not see him back, if you don't mind. So stone me now!

What's 'Fu'?
Personally I experienced great generosity from him, although I know that was not everyone's experience. These online forums can bring out the best and worst in people but as far as John (MI) is concerned I am writing from my own experience with him.(too many 'experiences' in this message!  ::)

Yes, as a fellow septuagenarian I hope he is doing well!

I am still out in the American West, for our long-desired tour of national parks (Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Yosemite, and several others), our 45th-wedding anniversary present to ourselves.   ;)

Felix Unger.

It took me two days to realize in the note "we're out of cornflakes --FU" that the FU stood for Felix Unger! ;D

I've heard from Sarge. He was in hospital, is back home now and will return to GMG soon.

I hope to hear he has been restored to health and participating again. I hope the doctor advised going light on Mahler, and lots of Haydn, specially Szell.

Well, I clearly missed the recent return and departure of our friend MI. I need to be more vigilant. Without seeking to re-open any cans of anything, I am sorry to have missed an opportunity to reconnect.

Good to hear Sarge may be back soon, and to see other folk joining us too 🙂

Quote from: Le Buisson Ardent on May 20, 2024, 06:55:07 AMCount me as someone who isn't fond of George Lloyd's music. I'm not at all dismissive of him because of his rather backward-looking musical ideals, but the music itself is just boring and uninteresting to me. I remember @vandermolen sent me a disc of his (I forget which symphonies were on the disc), but it was on Lyrita and I just found the music dull (sorry Jeffrey!). When I saw that these Lyrita sets were coming out, I thought maybe I should give him another try, so when I listened to one of the symphonies via my free Spotify account, my general feeling about his music remained the same. When it comes to English composers, give me RVW, Bax, Delius, Britten, Tippett, Walton et. al. any day of the week over Lloyd.
No problem at all! It's good that we have different tastes - it would be boring otherwise (like George Lloyd's music to some of you HAHAHA)  8)
By the way, if you don't mind me asking, who were you in your previous GMG existence?

Jeffrey, I was the only guy on this forum to sport a Koechlin avatar for awhile. This composer still doesn't enough love! But you will remember me as your Southern US friend, John.
