Quote from: ChamberNut on January 30, 2025, 11:34:14 AMOK, my mistake. I thought you were referring to MI.

Limiting the number of times a poster can quit and rejoin was made earlier as a tongue-in-cheek comment, but what about a time limit restriction before someone can come back? Maybe a 6 month enforced hiatus would make people view quitting less capriciously.

My mistake, then. I could've bet he's Bachtoven alright.

Unless it's the same person posting on multiple accounts, which I guess is always a possibility.

Why? It's a totally harmless foible as far as I can see. Some people are compulsive CD buyers, some people are compulsive account deleters. So what?

I lost count and sight on all those members that come and go as they please. What is the fun of this. I like things steady. I have lost so many friends over the years on GMG, quite painful actually. Especially when one gets older its a soothing thought that you can count on a status quo, right? Mazel Tov.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

That seems like it would be cumbersome to implement for our volunteer moderators, especially since people can re-register with a different email account.

On another board there is no "delete my account" button. You have to email the admin and request your account be deleted. That would limit impulse quits.

When people bring up term limits for political office opponents reply "there are term limits, they are called elections." At some level we have re-registration limits, which are called admins. I supposed the admin could decide "enough is enough," on a case by case basis.

Well, I stand corrected and duped. And a little miffed, if I'm being honest. As that person has two current accounts at the 'other place'.

Imagine trying to deal with someone in "real life" who constantly changed their identity.

We'd usually consider that a sign of fraud or some other problem.

Similarly, someone who came and went unpredictably would be given limited trust.

This gets at fairly fundamental questions about whether we consider the Internet a means for interacting with other human beings or whether you are all just bits of entertainment in my universe.

In any case, I think we need to stop obsessing on missing members. It only encourages the narcissists to go missing.

Yep is was fairly obvious, He simply took the opposite of a Guitar, a Klavier, quite logical I would say. No honestly I knew it almost instantly. I heard both cats meowing in the background..... ;D
