I thought I'd share a little update on Thatfabulousalien: it appears he's dropped out of university, gave up on his goal to become a composer, and has even left the city he was living in. Also, he has no interest in classical music any longer, which I hope is just a passing thing. It doesn't look like he'll be on GMG anytime soon. :-\ It's so strange how a 'bad experience', which in this case for Alien was studying music, can somehow taint your view of a genre that was obviously a passion and played an important part of your life.

I'm sorry to hear that.  I know he was having a tough time at school keeping up his motivation.

Anyone heard from Sarge lately? Just checked--he last checked in here on Jan 26.

Aerosmith or Gene Autry?

Or maybe that's the English translation of the mysterious "Hojotoho! hojotoho! heiaha! heiaha!"

Another victim of our modern educational system!  ???  He might have done better as an autodidact, using Fux, Berlioz, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Piston for his professors.

And a host of scores from the masters!  8)

Well, I do think Alien had reached a stage of burnout and simply couldn't recover from it.

Also, it's great to see the Sarge back! 8)

Thanks for the post. Sounds like a tumultuous time. I hope he's okay, whether or not he ever regains interest in classical music.

Disruption can be good if it puts you on the right path. Of course I don't know if that is the case here.

I assume anothername replied to the wrong post. There was discussion about " fab alien" just before MI commented about me. Alien did frequently change his nick.

He did. But then, on average, you and John changed avatars twice daily.
