Grover Cleveland is the only other President who was elected to non-consecutive terms.
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

That's a sort of Talmudic, or Kaballistic, interpretation of Todd's post. And I thought it was about a cartoon series - how shallow of me.

I would love Todd to come back and talk politics - not on this forum obviously. The thing is, I don't know anyone else who is intelligent, articulate, knowledgeable, well read, and was positive about Trump. I'd like to hear what he makes of what's happening in America and elsewhere now.

I also want to twist his arm to let me have a rip of Francine Kay's Debussy Preludes Book 2 - @Todd - come on, I know you have it.

I wasn't the first person to make the connection. I had no clue until someone else on the forum pointed it out. I think it is the obvious interpretation, given that it was the day after the election and the President is inaugurated in January.

I was that Talmud scholar who decoded it. I searched Todd's name recently; he's not dead or in jail.  ;D He's taken at least two very long breaks from the forum before.

Quote from: Mandryka on July 14, 2025, 08:50:25 AMWe shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, remembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.

Yes.

"I'm not going to leave here ever, ever again, because I love you all! And - oh, Auntie Em — there's no place like home!"

I don't give a flying fairy if he's dead or if he's been deported to CECOT  along with all the other American citizens. I just want that Francine Kay recording. If he's really alive and free he can jolly well prove it by ripping it and sending me a link.

I admit that my eye roll just now while reading sections of the last page or so was not an entirely voluntary response.

Quote from: Florestan on July 14, 2025, 04:37:56 AMI too miss Gurn. He didn't leave technically speaking  just has been inactive for years. I hope he's okay.

Yes, he is fine. I sometimes either email or text him. He is just working through digitizing the rest of his CD collection.

Quote from: Brian on July 15, 2025, 04:28:25 AMGuys, do we need a mysticism thread in The Diner for these discussions? Or are we still solving the mystery of where Todd went?  ;D

He is probably hard at work creating a scientific ranking of every Bach WTC recording known to man! ;D

Only the piano versions, if i know him right.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

Without Gurn (to whom great thanks), I probably wouldn't have this big box of Haydn CDs.

Is he not tempted to return?

Well, I don't blame him. Out of the former mod team, only Que and Bruce still post here. Gurn, Maciek, and Knight haven't posted here in quite a while. It takes a toll; they've had to deal with some serious trolls and fighting over the years.

I think that Gurn will at least return at some point.

In Romania, when someone is talked about at length in absentia we eventually say "okay, let's stop or he's gonna have hiccups". Todd must be visiting his doctor right now for persistent 24/7 hiccups.  ;D

That's something I was told as a kid by my mother. She would have picked it up from from her family (Belarussian/Ukrainian Jews). I wonder how widespread the superstition was.

And she taught it to me a cure for hiccups, btw. If you have them, start thinking of all the people who might be talking about you, and the hiccups will stop when your mental list comes to the actual culprit.

In Todd's case there's a whole lot of them, me included.

I have been missing (for the most part) for a couple of years, I think... I will pop up once in a while now.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Look, I have quite enough trouble listening to all the music from the past. It's not helpful to start thinking about all the music from the future that's even harder to get through.
