My first thought on reading the opening post was, as usual agreeing with Tsaraslondon, Callas as Didon in Les Troyens, or as Cassandra. Many years ago when Baker was singing Didon at the Edinburgh Festival I went to a pre-opera lecture. Some ancient Frenchwoman was giving the talk wich revolved ENTIRELY around how Callas would have approached the part had she sung it! Beyond bizarre.

At one point Scottish Opera tried to persuade Baker to sing Carmen....wisely she persisted in turning it down.

I would love a recording of Damnation of Faust with Jessye Norman. She committed the arias to disc a long time ago, but they have never emerged.

Had Wunderlich lived......Lohengrin, a Russian Lensky, his German version is marvelous, but it ought to be sung in Russian.

I wasted time: and time wasted me.
