I played the horn in 8th-9th grade band & symphony - Jr. High School, that is - can you possibly imagine my sucktitude on the instrument?   ;D

One thing I've noticed these days is that starts/entrances don't seem to correspond to the hand or wand movements of the conductor - sometimes the baton is moved 3-4 times before the players "respond" or begin.

Tell me the secret !!!!!   People in front of their 27" iMacs on a Saturday nite wanna know.
When, a few months before his death, Rachmaninov lamented that he no longer had the "strength and fire" to compose, friends reminded him of the Symphonic Dances, so charged with fire and strength. "Yes," he admitted. "I don't know how that happened. That was probably my last flicker."
