AGP67 is the first of two dedicated to the great British composer Alexander Goehr, who studied with both Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Boulez, and who was one of the founders of New Music Manchester in 1953, along with Peter Maxwell Davies, Harrison Birtwistle, and others. I would describe Goehr as a "composer's composer" in that there is nothing flashy in his compositions, but they are exceptionally well constructed and full of musical interest. Most of the works included in AGP67-68 are tonal.

While a number of works by Goehr are available on CD, much of his earlier work is not. This installment features works for chamber ensembles and solo piano from three LPs. Check it out at:
