What kind of classical music do you use to wake up?

I can't wake up to music in the morning. If I do, the first thing I hear turns into an earworm that I can't get rid of for the rest of the day. I set my clock radio to an all-news station and get caught up on headlines, weather forecasts, and sports scores for half an hour before rolling out of bed. Luckily, most of the commercials are music-free, except for a First Republic Bank ad featuring a jazz trio playing a great tune I would buy if I could ever discover what it is. When I finally get into my car for work, I'm usually ready to do some listening, so that's when I'll pop in a CD or tune in a music station.

Listening to the news seems to me a depressing way to start the day.

It can be, sometimes, but getting a heads-up on traffic, weather, and sports makes getting ready for the day a bit smoother for me.

Ten thumbs

Because I'm retired, I have the luxury of waking up relaxed, so a perfect beginning is Bonis' Le Matin. Nothing could be more refreshing. Pure impressionism and only a few minutes long.
A day may be a destiny; for life
Lives in but little—but that little teems
With some one chance, the balance of all time:
A look—a word—and we are wholly changed.
