I am not too keen on French baroque and I have almost half of this box on single discs already, so I certainly will not get it. But I like the discs I have (generally am a fan of Goebel/MAK) although it might well be that they have been superseded by newer recordings of the music (some of it is not at all frequently recorded, though). Some of Goebel's Telemann and Biber is still tops after >30 years but I am not so sure about the French baroque stuff (I am even surprised they did 10 discs worth).
Also, discs 7 and 10 have only been partly on CD before, if at all, so fortunately I am not a completist...

Ayayaye !  :o

Aren't you guys getting worked up on very subjective issues ? Just asking  !

My next consideration will be about ol' Beecham vs ev'ryone else when the EMI Delius Edition box comes a'thumpin' my doormat  :-\
I bought it recently (not arrived yet) since I saw it for under $20 at Amazon. Every CD is almost 80 minutes so it seems like you get a lot of music for your money.

Thanks, doesn't exactly push me over either edge ... guess I like French baroque a whole lot more than you do, but still ... any other opinions?

How many Tennstedt Mahler's are floating around on random labels?

Anyway this image says the extra track is him discussing Mahler's 6th??? What the heck is that doing on this cd ?

Considering this Lenny effort, but letting a full stream on Amazon Prime help me decide:

If you read more carefully, it says 'notably Mahler's 6th'. I think this is more or less a general discussion of how Tennstedt approaches Mahler's music. It's the performance of the 3rd I bought the recording for anyway.

At 5 min cant imagine him having a whole lot to say.

But, again, whether it was 5 minutes or 20 minutes, this doesn't matter one bit to me as it's the performance that I care about.

Yes, we read that the first time. Why do you feel the need to repeat yourself over a humorous comment? I mostly lurk on this forum, but to me you sometimes come off as pedantic and feeling attacked.

Just a FYI: I've twice been burned (no pun intended) by MovieMars after they sent me Arkiv discs (burns) instead of the real deal. Irritating non-disclosure about that little tidbit. Had to send them back for refunds.

I couldn't say for certain if this Takacs set is a burn but it might be worthwhile to double-check.

Arrived today.  It was in fact an ArkivCD and not an original issue.
Considering options now as I listen to it. The price I paid was actually no more than I would have spent knowingly on an Arkiv CD, so while I was certainly decieved I was not actually defrauded. I will most likely keep it (the performance is excellent), leave a rebuke for my customer survey, and deal no more with Movie Mars.

And that's fine that you feel that way but this couldn't be any further from the truth. Also, I didn't find any humor in what Wagnerite said, I don't think he was trying to be funny anyway.

Sux. Saw your PM. At least ArkivCDs are lossless sound, so no problems there.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

So then why did you feel the need to repeat what you said? I'm truly curious.

Oh come on. This is about music, not about how we act or why we are what we are. You're blowing completely innocuous comments way out of proportion.
You have never said the same thing twice? Well, I know I have.

Could it perhaps be in order to draw attention back to the original question about the recording he is considering?
Your comments and the sidetracking have added no value whatsoever to this thread. One might almost be curious as to why this made you come out from lurking...

People have now spent considerably more than 5 minutes discussing the rights and wrongs of whether you can say anything meaningful in 5 minutes. It's all very meta.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Thinking of spending some quality time with Chopin's Mazurkas, and these caught my eye:

My notes on the Primakov say "I just dipped into it, I listened to about four mazurkas fairly randomly. I would say it's a bit self conscious. You know it's as if he's saying all the time "look how beautiful this is, how sweet, listen to how how deep and meaningful I am." But I will listen more carefully when I'm next in a mazurka mood."

I never revisited the set.
