Any views on this twofer please ? Thank you  :)

M. Ravel, Complete Piano Music, J.-E. Bavouzet

Seconded. Thirded. Forthed

Also coincides with my live experiences. That's from well before he became Chandos' successful Debussy (and Haydn) -go-to-guy.

What orchestra is that with? Stuttgart? Swedish RSO? RAI-NSO? For that matter: what label is that?

Oh boy... that doesn't sound appealing to me... Celibidache or not.
And my experiences with Andromeda have been awful...

Thanks, Jens. I have never bought an Andromeda disc and that's the reason because I am being cautious.

This made me curious when I saw it floating by in the Amazon "new release" banner (although it seems to have actually, or originally, released in 1999).  One of series of recordings this pianist made including transcriptions of Tchaikovsky 6 and Mahler 1.

Worth getting?

I don't know this one. I really loved her Scriabin, bought the Mahler then and was a bit disappointed.

Well, in that case, I can save a little money and not get it  buy another CD instead.   Mahler devotee that I am, it was actually the Mahler CD I was most interested in, but the Amazon image is so tiny for that one it would have been unusable here.

Thanks.

For some reason this is only £6 on Amazon UK, so just to confirm - does anybody know whether the second (which I have) duplicates any of the performances?

Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

The new erato

The complete Louis Couperin on 4 discs.

The golden one has the following recording data:

D 894  25. September 1998, live, Frankfurt, Alte Oper
D 575    4. Oktober 1998, Amsterdam, Concertgebouw
D 959   14. Juni 1999, The Maltings, Snape
D 960   25. Juni 1997, London, Royal Festival Hall

Could you post the data of your's also - maybe we "need" to do a complementary acquisition :)

I found the following information for the "blue" one myself:

D 784 & D 840 Salzburg Festival
D 894 Frankfurt
D 959 Snape
D 960 Royal Festival Hall, London

So I guess disc 1 of the "blue" is different.

The complete Louis Couperin on 4 discs.

Have you heard before Egarr playing any French music? Quick search reveals he played harpsichord part in some Rebel violin sonatas and there is single disc of Louis Couperin on Globe (has that been recycled in this new set or these are all new recordings?).
I'm more inclined to make Rousset's Aparte double more of a priority when it comes to Louis Couperin.

Lethevich

@Sadko: my blue one says the same about disc 2, no year is mentioned. It looks like a bit of a scam, I'll skip it :\

Lethevich

Thanks for the confirmation. It's a shame because I'd be happy to buy the other disc (and more) if no duplication was involved.

Just got an email from Amazon that a 3 CD set of Scherchen conducting Mahler  is going to be released in a couple of weeks on Tahra:

1 with the RPO, 5 and 7 with the "Orchestra de l'Opera de Vienne"
Problem is, I know that his recordings could be somewhat idiosyncratic, to use a tactful term.   So are these the ones that I should want to have, or ones I can skip?

[all the images seem to be wonky from that page.  direct link to the Amazon page is:

Lethe--sounds like the best bet for both of us to get the box of studio recordings Sadko posted yesterday in the listening thread.

Idiosyncratic may just work with Mahler! : )

Seriously, sounds like recordings which would be of keen interest, Jeffrey.
