The only negative is the cheapest packaging of any set I have, so flimsy it's not fair to call it a "box".  Recordings are almost all full cycles (major exception being the piano concertos and the lesser piano works) drawn from the prime of EMI France: Cluytens and the BPO, Hungarian String Quartet, etc.   I've paused in the middle to deal with other elements of my listening pile,  but so far, having been through the orchestral and piano works,  it's a fine set.
Also, to go by Amazon US Marketplace prices,  about half the price of the DG box.  (I actually got by copy at Berkshire.  Credit for me getting it should go to Andre/Lilas Pastia.)

If that is the same box that they sold 10 years ago in green, pass on it.

Can anyone confirm that this recording is as good as the reviews are making me believe?

Recording is very good, theres' no doubt about it. It may lack a personal inner vision throughout the recordings... but it is a very, very high level recording. The best beethoven heard since long... :P

What do people think about Levine/Met II and Barenboim for Wagner's Ring?  Thinking of the whole av package for buying on blu-ray, so not just singing and orchestra, but the visual aesthetic as well.

Thanks, G!  I have the following two

and the Brilliant release, but cannot have enough of these on the shelf.  :)

You should get this set then, Bill! Beautiful recordings, like all in the series - and not the same ones as the single discs with Egarr and different soloists.

Thanks!  Did Harmonia ever put out a Handel box set?

That's a very nice album indeed, and is included in the concerto box below. :)

Just these, as far as I know. The concerto and aria sets are available at Amazon UK for reasonable prices, but the opera box is a bit ridiculously priced - they must sell better as single issues.

Thanks again. Looking into recordings, I may stay away from the Brilliant set for now, as I have the chamber works from it and am interested in these other recordings.

Those are great.  Awhile back I picked up that and the other Handel concerti on the HM label at BRO.  Check it out they might still have 'em.

Bogey

Looks like they have the Arias set, David.  Thanks!

I can't imagine you'd like the Brilliant set more than these.

The three releases with Op. 1-6 also just plain gorgeous.  >:D
van der Heyden's View of the Dam, ca. 1668-70, Canaletto's (?) Whitehall (detail) on the solo & trio sonata album covers.
Hmm, I haven't listened to any of these, apart from the Op. 4, for ages. Time to fix that this weekend. :)
