Hi everybody.
I am a 47 year old swede living in... well Sweden  ;D

I have been a member of this forum since just before christmas and so far it has been really informative and fun reading.

I have always enjoyed music, and during my teens I bought every rock or pop LP my parents could afford. In my early 20s I began to play the acoustic guitar and a friend gave me some cassettes with Göran Söllscher playing Bach. I enjoyed them a lot, and begged him to give me more. Well he was a good friend, and he provided more cassettes, but always with some other classical music on the B-side of the tape. It didnt take long before I was hooked on classical music.

Since then I have gathered quite a large collection of classical music of all kinds. I tend to listen mostly to orchestral symphonic music, but I like smaller settings as well. Somehow I don't seem to listen a lot to vocal music though.

There isn't a lot of live performances in the area where I live, but I try to go to Gothenburg a few times every year (last was in december, Mahler 5th conducted by Nikolaj Znaider.)

Some favorites of mine are in no particular ranking order:
Bach, Beethoven, Copland, Debussy, Haydn, Mozart, Mahler, Ravel, Sibelius, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky etc etc

Currently I am exploring more music from some composers I havent previously listened to that much, like Bartok, Hovhaness, Pettersson, Shostakovich etc etc.

I listen to both HIP and non-HIP music, and enjoy artists from both long gone days and present day. I think sound quality is an important aspect so I don't have a lot of really old mono recordings.

Well, thats a little about me.
Nice to meet you all!

/Fredrik

Welcome aboard! Sweden produced some great and unique composers: Berwald, Alfven, Stenhammar, Rangstrom, Atterberg, and Pettersson to name a few.

Welcome, Fredrik!  :)

Glad to see Mahler is one of your favourite composers, we should get on well because of this. As you can tell, or will be able to very soon, he is my absolute favourite! :) To me, Mahler is the greatest!

Hälsningar från Finland. Det är självklart att du har läst forumet eftersom du svarade Daniel innan han kunde fråga om Mahler.

A real shocker, this post.

Didn't know that Znaider also conducts, btw.

Thanks everyone!
It really is very cold here as well, around -15°C right now.

So it feels extra nice to be inside listening to some good music  :)
