These two concertos have impressed me powerfully, above all the Concierto de Lieja. God, what a wonderful composition this is.

+1.

+2. Both are superb works  :)

I'm a classical guitars, so I'm very familiar with his guitar works (I'm working on Sonata No.1 at the moment). Today I listened to his works for string quartet and string trio--wow!

That's in my "need another listen" pile. Do you know they recorded a second CD of his chamber music, including the Fifth String Quartet (I believe it was not composed until after the CD you have came out)?

No, I didn't. Thanks, I'll check it out.

This motivated to actually play the CD.  I'm not keen on Schnittke-like snippets of famous works, but that's what Brouwer does in Quartets 2 and 4, which he officially links together by their title [Rem Tene Verba Sequentia and Rem Tene Verba Sequentia II].
The rest is quite good, fortunately.

He quotes Beethoven's 6th Symphony in the Guitar Sonata No.1 first movement...seems completely random!

I highly recommend this recording of his complete Guitar Sonatas:

Here is a video of him playing No.4 (Apparently Flash Videos are no longer supported):

Great disc!

Bump! Looking to explore Brouwer's music more in depth, particularly solo guitar and other chamber works.

Recommendations welcomed.  :) Bonus for comprehensive box sets!  8)

Starting back on my continued classical guitar music exploration after a hiatus. $$$$$ will be spent.

I have a few discs of his music. Most are of his concertos, but I have one of his solo works I absolutely love:

There's also a fine Naxos disc by guitarist Elena Papandreou. I don't know if it's still available. It's labeled 'vol 2' but I've never seen any other volume in what I suppose should be a whole series. That one, too, is excellent.
