Feijenoord

Hello,
I'm not sure I'll keep posting as I registered for a specific (and non musical) topic, but at least it is the occasion for me to say I've been reading the site and forum for a long time now and to thank you all for your great work and the numerous tips on recordings and on new works I read on this forum.
I'm originally from Netherlands, but now living and working in Philly, and I'm a proud fan of the Philadelphia Orchestra. We are lucky to have one of the most promising conductors as musical director here for several years !

Welcome, Feijenoord! Great that you live near one of the world's great orchestras. I usually hear the Philadelphians when they come to Carnegie Hall - the last couple of times have been particularly good.

Anyway, enjoy yourself here.

Thanks to all of you !
Yes Brewski, this is a great orchestra and I think they're currently at their best since I've started attending their concerts... I hope this improvement continues, and their financial situation improves and allows the orchestra to keep playing and improving. I heard a couple weeks ago a magnificent account of Also sprach Zarathustra and Rachmaninov's 2nd concerto (with Dutoit, who is a great conductor even if he doesn't have the genius of Nezet-Seguin), and it was one of the best concerts I've heard so far.

Greetings, and welcome!

I lived in NJ for almost a decade and attended many concerts of the Phil.Orchestra. Some very wonderful memories. And I'm a fan of the city.  ;D

Welcome Feijenoord - glad that you are enjoying the GMG forum and hope to see you around! :)

We occasionally get up to Philly (just one airplane for us from Piedmont North Carolina) - love the history & the food -  :D

Dutoit?  He owes me 20 bucks!

Welcome.
When, a few months before his death, Rachmaninov lamented that he no longer had the "strength and fire" to compose, friends reminded him of the Symphonic Dances, so charged with fire and strength. "Yes," he admitted. "I don't know how that happened. That was probably my last flicker."
