Greetings, GMGers.

If there is a thread for this already, I don't know where/what it is.

I have a question: What is your favorite new composition that is available on CD? Let's say written within the last two decades. I am on the hunt for new music.

Thank you.

Looks like a lot of videos or are CDs mentioned as well?

I think, if you're not 'some guy' or Bruce, your best bet of listening to some new music is on You Tube. j/k I haven't visited that thread much, but since you were looking for a thread about contemporary 'serious/art' music, I directed you to that one. :)

Seems any Carter thread should do!
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Okay. Thanks.

You're welcome. Perhaps you'll have better luck in coming across recording recommendations if you visit composer-specific threads.

Dammit, I want one-stop shopping! ;)

Two of my favourite recent orchestral works came from 1997, so not new, but within 20 years -

Tüür - Symphony No.2
Vasks - Violin Concerto

Todd

Don't know if I can say it's my favorite or anything, but I pop Stephen Hartke's Clarinet Concerto in with some regularity.  The whole disc is most entertaining.

The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

WOLFGANG RIHM:     Fetzen                      / Arditti String Quartet

Composed from 1999 to 2004. The title means something like "scraps". Little pieces, mostly for string quartet.

Newest would probably be the Alan Hovhaness CD "... Great Whales."

Hmmm ..... think I'll pop it in the external firewire optical drive right now.
