Enough of this trivialty, let's talk about something serious.

What kind of car would you buy? You're not allowed to say Toyota Yaris even if it's true! Lie if you have to, but what kind of car?

Sports cars are cool, but what I like is cars that are hot but don't look it. Did you see Ronin? You have an Audi and a Peugeot and I don't know what racing around through narrow village streets. There's something really cool about cars like that.

I love the Mazda. It's a van that's really mini. I think it's a stretched 3, which explains something. My brother just got the new Passat Diesel. I took a ride in it and let me tell you this is a good car. I know some reviewers don't like the new VWs that have been cheapened and ballooned for American tastes. I'd stay away from the Jetta, and get the Golf instead, or the bigger Passat.

I love the Audi, fuck the Honda, except the Civic hybrid is OK.

I know an amp you'd like. You know Reeves Amps? They make Hiwatt clones, but now they've branched out and are making the Super '78, inspired by the amp EVH used on his first album. I'm not a high gain type myself but this one is pretty sweet:

No pedal is used, and the amp cleans up nicely at lower gain settings, so it might be just the thing.

Didn't know Reeves before, it sounds great, thanks! (waiting for the check  ;))

I'm not really a high gain person, either, though. Townsend, Cream-era Clapton, Gilmour, Blackmore, Knopfler, Moore, and EVH had sweet tones. Creamy tone, low compression, lots of harmonics, and ability to clean with volume/dynamics.

As to the car question, I wouldn't say no to a 60s Ford Mustang, or a vintage Jaguar.

I think the Reeves Custom 50 or 100 would get you the Townshend and Gilmour sound.

I've never played a Soldano. Given the variety of styles that interest you the Soldano would be something to try. Reeves is direct sale only, which is why they are surprisingly inexpensive given their reputation for quality (they're considered superior to "real" Hiwatts made today by whoever owns the name in the U.K.).

The Mega Millions lottery is up to $500 million now.  A single winner taking the lump sum would get, what, $250-$300 million or so, depending on the state they live in.  (I don't know the exact calcs.)  How to spend that?  I have my ideas.  I would also quickly develop a fun new past time: telling new found friends and relatives to go away.

I'm terrible at spending money. I can't force myself to make a major purchase because I can't bear to part with the money, yet I spend enough on magazines and candy bars to feed a small army (of, perhaps, highly literate ants).

I will buy a car soon for my GF, who drives (I don't). What kind of car, I hear you ask? My GF loves the Honda Civic. I will try to influence her away from this mediocre piece of car flesh and towards something good like a Ford Focus or Hyundai Elantra, or even the new Subaru Impreza. Fortunately she likes the Focus. But if she wants the horrible Civic I will get it.

I drove a friend's Civic while visiting out in Ohio, and I didn't think it bad.  What is it about the Focus or Elantra which you find superior, Ernie?

Seriously, it's a good car, and at one time it was the best small car at the price. I think other cars have passed it by in economy and technology, such as the ones I named and others like the Mazda3 with the new engine, and the VW Golf Diesel.
