Glad to see that the idea of the Blind Comparison is continuing here on GMG, it is something I really enjoyed!

I am now starting up my own Blind Comparison, for Mahler's 6th symphony. If you wish to take part, please just reply to this thread saying so! A seperate thread for voting and impressions will be created soon.

To start with, there will be 23 versions I have picked. In the first part of the comparison, voters will be divided into three different groups, A, B + C. In Group A, there will be 7 versions. And in Group B and Group C, there will be 8. Don't worry, you won't have to listen to that number of complete performances!!!! ;) In the first part, you will be comparing just from the opening to the repeat. So roughly 4 minutes.
You will then vote for your top 5 out of your group. The 8 versions with the least number of votes will be excluded.

Part 2 will still be divided into 3 groups, 5 versions per group. This part will concentrate on an excerpt from the scherzo.
The top 5 from part 2 will then go onto the finale, which the last 10 minutes or so of the finale will be used.

Will be explained more when we get to that point. But for now, if you want to take part, please say so here. The more voters the better! And feel free to state a group preference too, and whether you would like to do more than one group.
The group audio will be uploaded to a private link on youtube, and you shall be sent the link via personal message. Once you have decided, please post your thoughts and your votes on the 'Blind Comparison: Mahler 6 - Thoughts and Voting' thread which will be created soon.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

I hope to form a Blind Comparison for all the Mahler symphonies eventually! :D

I'm going to participate, but I don't know how much time I can devote. I'm going to be busy these next couple of days...

Great, thanks John. Don't worry - the voting will only probably start on Wednesday, and then you would have at least 2 weeks to post your votes. And extra time if needed. :)

I am very busy, too. But seeing that we do have a fair bit of time - count me in.

Great, Johan! Thank you!
Yes, the whole comparison overall will probably be spread over more than 2 months, with extra time if necissary. :)

I'll do it, Daniel  ;D ...I'm not even a huge Mahler listener, but I greatly admire the 6th and think it would fun considering I'm really only familiar with 4-5 recordings. Could have a different approach to the recordings presented than others who are more familiar.

Hmm, I've never done one of these before, but I can hardly resist a Mahler comparison. :D  I'll be happy to participate - and happy for the relaxed schedule!
So much great music, so little time...

Great, thank you both! :)

I shall send out the links to your groups on Wednesday.
