Carl Ruggles was great, but it's almost impossible to find his music in good quality, aside from Sun-Treader and Men and Mountains. He also did not write much at all, unfortunately.

Tilson Thomas' Buffalo recordings had just been released on CD, for the first time I believe.

How's the sound quality?

Don't know, haven't bought the CD set yet, it's just been released.

I still have LP transfers loudav did for avant-garde project. They sound pretty good to my ears, and still can be downloaded for free, try for yourself:

The audio quality is great. For the Ruggles fan, this is an essential acquisition IMHO.

Sammy thinks it would be a fine idea to add Copland. ;D

He's boring the neighbours for about 4 years now with his polls/ games.  :'(

Difficult to choose but, if pushed I'd have to say:

Harris (he's not very popular on the forum is he?)

Diamond

Barber or Bernstein
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

I like Ruggles and some Cage, haven't heard much, if any, of the others yet.

Ruggles is fantastic! Give a listen to the 2-CD set from Tilson Thomas of the complete works. I bought it years ago, but it's long been OOP. If you're a streamer, I'm sure you can find it.

What's the fidelity of archive.org? AAC? Mp3? High bitrates?

People upload in a number of formats from low bitrate MP3 to 24 bit / 96 kHz FLAC and sometimes both MP3 and FLAC. The Ruggles was in FLAC. A lot of uploads are from vinyl of various degrees of wear. What gives me the most work though is splitting works where there are just FLACs for "Side 1" and "Side 2", and actually identifying the recordings by comparing with Discogs listings.
