Hello! Been reading good-music-guide.com for a while and didn't realize it had a forum!

so...hear I am! a real person.

I am currently into mahler and trying to find a passionate, yet reasonable priced version of the 8th. Any recommendations?

Hello, and welcome!

This is great to hear, Mahler is my favourite composer! My favourite recording of no.8, out of the ones I have heard so far, would be the Sinopoli which is on DG.

By the way, if you are interested in comparing recordings of Mahler, you may be interested in taking part in my 'Blind Comparison-Mahler 6' project, running here on GMG. See the 'Great Recordings' section of the thread for more details.

Best Wishes,
Daniel

Welcome on the forum :)

Mahler Symphony No.8 is stunning piece, absolutely beautiful and passionate; apart from the Sinopoli recording, other higly remarkable versions are the Bernstein, which is both and Sony and on DG, and the Solti, which is on Decca.

That's funny - I didn't know there was something beyond this forum??

Welcome and watch out for wet paint.
When, a few months before his death, Rachmaninov lamented that he no longer had the "strength and fire" to compose, friends reminded him of the Symphonic Dances, so charged with fire and strength. "Yes," he admitted. "I don't know how that happened. That was probably my last flicker."

I actually love Nagano's Mahler 8th. Even it's studio recording.
