Nelsons? Have seen him (on Arte Television) conducting the Concertgebouw on Lucerne festival 2011: Shostakovich 8, very impressive. After Herford, now Birmingham, maybe one day he'll come back to Germany. Berliner Philharmoniker? I don't like Rattle... And we give you Rattle back in return ;).

Unless you have heard Nézet-Séguin in concert, then you are in no position to make any judgement about his merits as a conductor.  Particularly if all you have heard of his Bruckner are the recordings on the ATMA label, which do not convey more than a fraction of the concert experience.

I've seen Nézet-Séguin in concert twice and came away both times very much underwhelmed. Solid, competent results, but nothing original, and he seems to be resolutely anti-excitement. I saw him in the Franck D minor, Faure requiem, Ravel bits, and the Symphonie fantastique.

I did find Vladimir Jurowski's concerts reliably rewarding, though, and Petrenko's Shosty 11th is a concert experience I will carry in memory for many years. Caught Karabits at the Proms in an even more than usually ravishing performance of the Rach Symphony 2. Would very much like to hit the road to Dallas and see Jaap van Zweden in action.

I see Nelsons is ahead. Not surprised.

Last night I bought tickets to his Mahler 2nd in Birmingham this Autumn. Fingers crossed for no cancellation.

I wasted time: and time wasted me.
