Could someone explain the older recordings to me please? :-*

There's one on Sony/CBS, which also includes piano works with B. Wambach.

There's one on the French label Adda, with Messiaen.

In discussion, I've heard of one with Gazzeloni on flute, and another with Minton on vocals and Gualda on percussion. This latter one is on a CBS LP, so, I'm guessing that that IS the CBS cd? And so, is the Adda the one with Gazzeloni on flute?

Are there others (not on cd) besides the LP Craft?

Which is the recommendable one?

Waaah :'(!!! ;D

Thanks.

Bought this old mono vinyl on the Vega label (date unknown to me; late 1950s?) just a few weeks ago, mainly because of the cover, by Andre Masson. The soprano is Marie Therese Cahn, the flute soloist in M.J. Tibergé, Boulez conducts. But the singing style is a bit old-fashioned and the sound is not particularly good and in mono. Wouldn´t recommend it. It might have been released on CD too.

I´ve also got Boulez/Deroubaix/Gazelloni (DHM 1964) and Boulez/Laurence (CBS 1989). Both are good, Deroubaix perhaps being my preferred.

Deroubaix:

I don´t know the Boulez/Minton (cbs 1972):

I listened to a bunch of Boulez samples the other day and was surprised at how rich and romantic some of his stuff now sounds to me (particularly the orchestrated Notations). If only DG would issue a bargain box of their recordings. As it is, it's hard to guess which are the essential purchases. I assume the Erato sets have been superceded....

ok, let me get this straight. The CBS disc we all see at Amazon (the old looking one, presumably with a blue spine (or white with red lettering)), that is 1985, not 1971??? I suppose this goes for the Sony reissue too??? So 1971 has not been released?

I thinks that's my confusion here.

Thanks, James. As I said, I am waiting for DG to issue a box (yes, we bargain hunters are parasites on the classical music industry!), but the Erato set is now in my wishlist.

You might be waiting awhile for something like that, and you might loose all the liner notes, .. you can probably get all 6 for quite cheap if you keep close eye on Amazon prices. I have seen all of them for very cheap individually down through the years. In fact, most of them are running at budget type prices now, you'd be able to get all of them in no time. And since you seem enchanted by Notations for orchestra (has he yet completed the whole set, anyone?) you can get a fab recording (below) of them for cheap; the great Piano Sonatas are thrown in for good measure - a total steal.

I got most as ex-library,... very cheap!!
