Yes, I have been to Turkey a few times and in October.....Istanbul, at long last.

Re the Wagner, you might enjoy orchestral extracts and move on to the main works in full. There are a lot of good orchestral discs about, but I especially like those conducted by George Szell. They are decades old, but the sound is good and the music making is powerful.

If Karl had suggested a Karajan recording, it would have even been a rarer event..... ;)
