I suspect, that if you kept it down to a decent level, that he was enjoying it; however, as Karl said it's about getting to know the bird and trying to understand what they were saying.  If you hadn't been around the bird often (or also that species?), it could be hard to figure out.  That said, I suspect that you would be sensitive enough to interpret if the bird was upset.  Talk to your parents and share what you observed and what their thoughts are.  Perhaps a good learning experience for all of you?
