All know the Shed, but few actually walk it.

Ataraxia

I suffer from conflict between my normal daily activities and what I think I should be doing in the Shed. This conflict results in bouts of disgust and perhaps depression. Maybe I need to build a shed on a mountain somewhere and leave all this behind, but that will probably never happen so I better get used to the conflict between these two sides of me.

Whatever.  ::)

Reconciliation with daily activities; it can be a surprising challenge.

For instance, all this purchasing of music is an empty activity in my opinion. Yet I keep doing it out of habit. Disgust ensues.

Out of habit, only? Not out of desire to hear new things?  Just askin'.

It's a bottomless pit, hearing "new" things. And are they really new? And what about those old things? The minute you purchase something and listen to it, it becomes an old thing and you're then on to the next "new" thing.

It's an endless cycle of suffering/desire.

If you watch it
will it be rewatched?
If you listen
will it be reheard?
If you read it
will it be reread?
Each new viewing
you'll find it notched.
Each new listen
you'll write the word
Each new reading
Mark \/check on the shed.

And this is why I haven't been writing lately. Am I improving on silence? I doubt it.

Or maybe I'm just lazy.  ;D

I see your point. I think it is not necessarily the model, but . . . I do not walk in your moccasins.

For me, to listen to new stuff (in some sense) is part of my ear-discipline as a composer. It does not necessarily entail any denial/rejection of The (Already) Known.

You don't need me to tell you this, but of course, you're right that we need to keep our eyes on Doing Our Own Work.  Another area of frequent challenge.

I haven't been writing either.  In fact, I am going nuts about it because I have much to do.  Nuts.  Oh, and one other thing...Nuts. The simple solution is of course to write...but it is the hardest thing to do right now, although when I do it, it is exciting and constructive.  Perhaps it is the intensity of the writing experience that I am slanting from... :'(

I'd like to write something meaningful but this has already been done, so what's the point?

I'm probably sharing too much here and for that I apologize. But now you know why I get grumpy sometimes.  ;D

It's more disgust leading to anger than depression.  ;D I mean, I sleep fine, my weight is fine, I don't want to kill myself...

Only you can determine for yourself if there's a point : ) The fact, though, that meaningful art has already been created (many a time and oft) does not of iself invalidate your own endeavors.

One man's opinion, but I believe that your sharing here is entirely within Shedly compliance.
