Bottomless, topless, and sideless, I imagine.

Ergo: You become everything.

This is the great thing about The Shed. You get the whole universe AND it keeps the rain out.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but today, something funny (and kinda nice) happened.

You know that when you type something on your iPad, words are "anticipated" at the top of the onscreen keyboard, with three suggestions . Well, this morning I was writing an e-mail, and when I was going to type a word starting with the letter z, the central suggestion that came up was...Zvezdoliki:)

Among much else, I've learnt two things:
1. My parakeet really, really enjoys the fourth Brandenburg Concerto.
2. Unlike many humans, he's not picky about which performance it may be.

Aw, sweet!  You have a parakeet!  And one who enjoys music!  I had a cat who seemed to enjoy Vaughan Williams.  :)  I remember seeing her sitting in front of one of the speakers when I put him on.

RIP my sweet girl.

So it doesn't matter whether it's recorders or traverse flutes - or have you tried to let him hear Dart's sopranino recorder special (on Marriner's first recording ca. 1969)?

I haven't played him the Marriner. He seems pretty easy, but offhand I think he's only heard recorders there.

I definitely listen to Allan Pettersson in another room. If I'm lucky, he doesn't insist that I shut the door.

The First Lesson You Won't Find in a Textbook...

On the first day of "Introduction to Law," the professor walked into the classroom, looked directly at a student sitting in the front row, and asked:
— What's your name?
— Nelson, sir.
— Get out of my class and never come back! — the professor shouted.

Everyone froze. Nelson was stunned, gathered his things, and quietly left.
The entire room was in shock. But... no one said a word.

— Good. Let's begin, — the professor said. — Why do we need laws?

Still unsettled, students slowly began to answer:
— To maintain order in society.
— No!
— To make sure people obey rules.
— No!
— To punish those who break them.
— No!

Finally, one girl shyly said:
— To ensure justice?
— Finally! Exactly. Laws exist for justice.

— Now tell me: was it just to kick Nelson out of class?
The room fell silent.
— I want a unanimous answer!
— No! — the students replied in unison.
— So, was it an injustice?
— Yes!

— Then why did no one speak up?
Why do we even need laws if we lack the courage to defend them?

When you witness injustice, you must not stay silent.
Ever.

— Go find Nelson, — the professor added. — Because he's the real professor. I'm just a student from another section.

Remember: when we don't stand up for our rights, we lose our dignity. And dignity is never negotiable.

At one point, I bird-sat for my parents for a week. That little budgie dug classic rock. He would dance around and chirp along.

Of course, he could have been trying to tell me to turn it down, now that I think about it.

 I suspect, that if you kept it down to a decent level, that he was enjoying it; however, as Karl said it's about getting to know the bird and trying to understand what they were saying.  If you hadn't been around the bird often (or also that species?), it could be hard to figure out.  That said, I suspect that you would be sensitive enough to interpret if the bird was upset.  Talk to your parents and share what you observed and what their thoughts are.  Perhaps a good learning experience for all of you?
