Paul McCarteny said that the song,"God Only Knows"  from Brain Wilson's album Smile is one of the greatest songs ever written.

God Only Knows is pretty high on my list of most perfect songs ever written.

George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue had a great influence over Brian at a young age.

I believe the DVD documentary for the Smile concerts has a section where Brian discusses this -- he even plays parts of Gershwin and Good Vibrations on the piano to demonstrate the similarities.
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

No, that's the only Brian Wilson DVD I have.  There's also this, if you're looking at the Gershwin angle... I can't give it a five-star rec, but it's certainly worth a listen if the concept appeals...

May be too much for the lad....he still struggles with most of Pet Sounds here and there.  He'll get there.  He took to all the Beatles, so this is just a matter of time. ;D

Yes, very true. Just don't mention she's now old enough to be his mother.    :)
