I think one of the violins is actually an alto

Yes, but does it Rappé?

Maciek

Wow! We're up to page 2!

Well, actually I'm alone here so far but I'm sure others from page 1 will be joining the party soon enough... :)

Right?

Hm... That silence is quite telling. It reveals that in fact many GMGers do not have the extensive collections they're constantly boasting. >:D Or am I to believe the fantastic quirk that no one has Harnoncourt's St Matthew Passion or B Minor Mass? Beethoven's Missa solemnis or Symphony No. 9 conducted by Colin Davis? I know Haitink's Wagner cycle wasn't getting much love here though, so I suppose people probably just dumped it, and now can't offer a decent comment.

How about this then:
Recordare from Roman Maciejewski's Requiem

Jadwiga Rappé - alto
Warsaw Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra
Henryk Wojnarowski - choirmaster
Tadeusz Strugała - conductor

How about this? Lacrimosa from another Requiem by another composer:

And if anyone would like to hear the other Szymanowski items from that same concert (featuring another singer) - I've posted them here in the Szymanowski thread.

Some years ago, I wanted to buy a Harnoncourt Hohe Messe, and, after listening in the shop, I opted for the older one. Rappé did not have much to do with that, though. I thought that the older version was more lively.
I first heard Jadwiga Rappé sing in the eighties, where she joined in the yearly Bach Passion at Palm Easter Sunday in Amsterdam, with (again) Harnoncourt. These performances were kinda semi-HIP, with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The version of 1985 was recorded and published to earn some money for the renovation of the Concertgebouw (building). After that Harnoncourt decided he did no longer approve of this recording to be sold, and it's no longer in the catalogue. Sure, it wasn't the best SMP one could hear (with an amateur choir, f.i.), but there were marvellous contributions of some singers, like Evangelist Kurt Equiluz, soprano Arleen Augér and .... Jadwiga Rappé. She does not have a real (semi-)HIP related voice, but her Erbarme dich, mein Gott, accomponied by violinist Jaap van Zweden, was heartbreaking, IMHO. Harnoncourt allowed them both to use vibrato and rubato in a delicate way, and the bronzed sound of the Concertgebouw (both building and orchestra), the warm, involved and vibrant voice of Rappé, and the romantic, yet both tender and intense playing of Van Zweden made this a very special occasion to me.
I don't have the CD, too bad. When I began earning money, the set was already withdrawn by Teldec. I lend it from a library, but that one was badly damaged. As is, alas, my own old LP-set. Could someone send me a (digital) copy, on CD(-recordable) or MiniDisc, he asked beggingly? :-[  ;)

Post Scriptum: Maciek, good luck with your thread! :)
Unfortunately there's not much I can add.

Maciek

Well, I guess the taunting works sometimes... ;)

But seriously: Thanks for the comments, Marc! They're very welcome, and have a mouthwatering effect, of course. ;D

Perhaps, if someone does have that CD (CDs?), they could upload it on MediaFire or somewhere? Maybe there are more of us who'd like to try it. (Though, judging by the avalanche of responses to this thread, perhaps that is an overoptimistic estimation... ;D)

Yes, but I'm an old-fashioned boy. I still have a slow phoneline Internet connection. But no problem, there might be another way to get it, and I've got the patience .... and, still, the memories. 0:)
