I'm just wrapping up a MusicWeb review of the Cecilia Quartet's debut CD, with Dvorak's 13th Qt. It's the best performance I've heard since the Pavel Haas, and actually, if the Cecilia players can be compared to anybody, it's the Pavel Haas. They're dynamite: bold, adventurous, unafraid to take risks, and with the taste and smarts to pull them off. There's stuff in this reading they do like nobody else. I'm really delighted by their vibrancy, flair, and fearlessness.

Winners of the 2010 Banff Quartet competition. 2013 will bring a CD of Janacek, Berg, and Webern. In terms of exciting new (founded 2001-) North American string quartets, I'd rank them alongside the Jasper and Parker. They are good. Oh, and they're all ladies.
