Well tell me Mr. Worldly Traveller, have you ever been to my neck of the woods? Have you ever tried scrapping up a date with a woman around here (NE GA) that likes classical music and actually listens to it? I've spoken with maybe two women who know who Stravinsky and Ravel are and they're past their 50s. Maybe things were different when you were dating? Maybe you and I just don't run in the same circles? Regardless, what I told Daniel was fair and honest. Whether you agree or not doesn't change the fact that people who are younger have unrealistic expectations and they tend to dream of something that's 'picture perfect'. That's just apart of being a wide-eyed teenager. As Daniel's friend, I'm not going to sugarcoat things for him and I don't expect him to with me either. I KNOW he will find a woman worthy of his time, but what I want him to know is that finding good qualities in the woman's character are much more important than what music she favors. That's what I'm trying to tell him.

Find a girl who likes to have sex. Find a man-friend who likes Ravel. There, solved!

I'll like Ravel with you; now go find yourself a girl! ;)

Oh, and this is the most important thing for GMGers here: do NOT be yourself!!

Do NOT be yourself. You are a freak who listens to... ewwwwww... "Classical Music" (blech, barf, gag). NO chick wants that; you might as well be ghey. Save ALL that stuff for GMG (your GMG account is as bad as a child porn account to girls). All girls want from you is: sex, power, security.

Just make that your mantra: SEX, POWER, SECURITY. If it's not one of those three, then you're talking to a short haired woman over 50.

Don't argue with this unassailable logic. Do you want

a) to go home alone?

b) not go home alone?

Trust me, I'm having the exact same problem. I just can't seem to act 'normal' no matter what. And... 'normal' is NOT GMG!! At least not for fertile women with itchy thighs.

If you want a dowdy old schoolmarm, by all means be your GMG self. Otherwise, learn something from the dickhead next door who probably gets all the girls without even trying. Have you tried baggy drawers? Can you say, "'Supp yo?" Know the 'pimp slap'?

Oh yes, "trying too hard" is probably also a factor. Girls can sense if one is desperate. I've been trying for years to get this 'L' off my forehead. Fu-hu-huck.

anyhow, humor before suicide I always say ;) ;D

This woman likes classical music.

She's also beautiful, intelligent, and very accomplished.

And I'd say there's a very good chance that she likes sex.

Fellows who blame others for their own problems are very unlikely ever to solve those problems. If the problem is you, then pointing the finger at women in general is not only a catastrophic error in your thinking, but ironically indicates the real problem.

*Bingo!*

Not sure where all of this is coming from...but here's another woman who likes classical who is beautiful, intelligent, and very accomplished:

And you know what? She probably likes sex too. :)

As for your argument that people who blame others for their problems get nowhere, well DUH Dave! I don't have a problem with women. Do you?

Thanks, Neal and Dave. I appreciate your words. :)

And, John, thank you for you frank advice too. I just want to reassure you that I already am good friends with many females, that are incredidly talented musicians and that can offer opinions on such a variety of music, ranging from Bach to heavy metal, or the jazz greats to Coleridge Taylor's violin concerto for example. Being at the academy and in orchestras is great socially as well as musically! :) The girl I really like at the moment is a wonderful instrumentalist, and is very keen on classical music too. :)

Setting aside for the moment the profound irrelevance of this speculation: How exactly do you "know" this?

I don't know just like Dave Ross doesn't know this about Yuja Wang. Why don't you question him as well or did you just flip a coin and decide it was "pick on MI" day?

But do you put yourself into places/situations that you could find people who do like it? There are so many colleges these days with some sort of music (invited performers, local talent, etc.), cafes/book stores/clubs that attract interested parties, etc. I've never known anyone personally who said/wrote what you just wrote, so it is hard for me to understand. It also directly contradicts my own experience, and I have been all over for various jobs from the southwest US to the east coast, and to other shores, in big cities and tiny towns (rural and urban).
I go to a community college; there are basic music theory classes, but they have nothing to do with my major, so it would be a waste of time and money to take them.
The nearest university is over an hour away; I don't have the time or money (gas + toll roads = expensive) to visit that area regularly (luckily when I transfer there, my classes should all be online).

There's nothing local that I know about, unless I'm missing something. I did go to a local piano recital once in a library (a program of Mozart and Schubert). I was the only person there under the age of 40 or so, in a room full of about 50 or so old people. Also keep in mind that I live in the county with the highest percentage of retired people in the country, so I wasn't completely surprised.

I think it doesn't help that nearly half of the girls around my age (early 20s) that I've known are single moms. At least I get the feeling it doesn't help, anyways.

On the way to Fuddruckers you asked yourself, "What the hell am I doing going to Fuddruckers?"

but, is there something I should know about America's 3rd Best Burger Joint (after 5 Guys & the other place)? FR's is the only place where I can see the bloody gore actual dripping out of the oversized patty,... and, you know, soooometimes one needs a little animal protein to offset the peanut butter and tuna fish.

Should I have been going to Mary's House of Bean Sprouts? :-\

Hey, give him time, John. Don't rush the lad. It's still early in this non-relationship  ;D

This is why I don't tell internet strangers about relationships until they happen... my most recent example was meeting a co-worker's roommate, hitting it off, getting very tipsy, and flirting outrageously, but then I got the new job and in a week I move to Dallas, so... oops  :-\ but we're at least meeting again Monday over a bottle of wine.

So you blurt out everything to strangers IRL, then. :-\ :D
