Hi Stingo,

I enjoyed the Sirius XM radio also.  I had a 3-month free subscription when I bought my new car in August, which expired at beginning of November.  :(

I'll have to check and see how much it is, and if it is worthwhile renewing.  Out of the hundreds and hundreds of music stations available on Sirius XM Radio, there were only 3 classical music stations available.

Usually bring CDs in the car, so I may just not get a subscription.  We'll see.  :-\

I was thinking of going the Sirius XM radio route, but only three classical stations is not anything I'm willing to pay for.  Thanks for the info.

Why? How many can you listen to at a time?

No problem, Don.  Just keep in mind, perhaps there are different feeds for USA versus Canada?

I am going to check their website first, and see what the costs are, and if indeed there are only 3 Classical Music stations available, or perhaps there are more.  Either way, I won't lose any sleep over it.  :)

Right.  I'm just a little sad that my car cd player isn't working at all, so I've been listening to the local radio stations which suck and have constant commercials.

That does suck.  :(  One thing I can say about the Sirius classical stations.  They are good stations.  They do play complete works, more often than not.  Also, they are not afraid to steer away for the 'typical' best hits of classical music.  They've played stuff like Offenbach piano works, and Delius!!  The programming is quite varied, and not the 'Top 10' pops sort of classical music that plague most stations.

Before I signed up for any radio (which allows you no control over the programming) I'd master the Bluetooth technology in my car and stream NML from my phone through the car's audio system.  Or replace the CD player.

My CD player has an 'AUX IN' plug, and I plug my MP3 player into it and play my own tunes. You might check if yours does... I don't know what Don drives, but Bluetooth in cars is still limited to just a few brands, and only new ones at that. Otherwise it sounds good, though. :)

I got SiriusXM because I already choose all my music - it's nice to make some surprise discoveries, which for me include Kuhlau's Overtures, Vieuxtemps' Cello Concerti and Pierne Piano Concerti.

I'm sick and tired of radio stations. The only thing I listen to in the car is the sound of me driving and other cars. For me, driving isn't the time to seriously listen to music and give it the attention it requires. Just my two cents.

I had to remove my car radio because it was draining the battery, but I cannot say I miss it all that much.

I burned and ripped a bunch of CDs to play in my car.  Morning commutes are useless on radio:  talk jocks all along the dial.  Afternoon and evening is better,  since I've found three or four stations that play the rock and pop songs I liked back in the 70s/80s.   But usually I play my CDs, which are almost all rock and pop favorites of mine.   If classical creeps in,  it's either a warhorse (Carmina Burana, f.i.) or one of those "Baroque Top Hits" sort of compilation--nothing that demands full attention and which can be safely cut off in the middle when necessary, but blocks out the traffic noises rather nicely.

It's a matter of probability.  If I have 10 classical stations available, it is more likely that I will enjoy some music than if there are only 3 stations.

I've tried this with TV stations. It doesn't seem to hold.  I initially grew up with 2, then it expanded to 5.  That was probably enough.  Australian free-to-air now has around 17 or 18 stations I think, but it's still 5 networks and frequently means they just spread the decent stuff that was on one station across several, and a couple of the newer ones are absolute dreck such as 12 straight hours of advertorials.

Although they have their limitations, these gizmos work if you don't have the "aux in" option.
