I was going to remark "Nice to see you back" in a post you made a wee while ago but unfortunately I wasn't sure you were away in the first place - just been some time since we heard from you.   :P

yes.  Granted, it is far closer to the 6 mark.  Or possibly till August.  Depends on how long the thesis will take.

Hi Allan - great to see you back here again & hope for a long stay!  Tell us about your activities - assume that you've been busy?  :)

As for me, I 'retired' in June of 2011 - NOT looking back; traveling more, doing more woodworking, relaxing & listening to a LOT of music - Dave

Sonic!!! How could you possibly travel MORE?!!!?!!  Happy for you!  Glad you are able to enjoy everything you want for your life...how wonderful.

As for me, it's been an awfully tough year but I'm smiling again :)

What have you been cooking in the kitch, Allan?
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Forgot about another 'retirement' duty, especially after a deck/porch remodel + a new grill - I'm now also 'grill boy' - shown below is 'beer can' chicken w/ dry rub under & on top of the skin - just delicious!  Tonight I'll be grilling some lamb chops, just oiled w/ 'herbs de Provence' - third time w/ that one (one of Susan's favs!) - well got to go and prepare the chops!  Dave :)

Hi Bill - the chicken was a while back, but likely had a white wine, such as a Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc , or Chardonnay - but have also had a light Pinot Noir; the dry rub adds extra flavor & heat, so a light red wine would be fine; for myself, I would not go w/ a heavier red, but again, a choice of wine is a very personal decision. :)

Tonight, Susan & I just finished our Lamb Chop dinner on the porch - grilled the chops to medium rare and came out perfectly (lucky?) - just a big salad as a side - 2 chops each and left a little meat on my bones for her to chew on (I call her 'bone woman') - for my wine I had a recent arrival from Oregon (belong to the OPNC, i.e. Oregon Pinot Noir Club) - an Alloro Vyd 2010 Pinot Noir - just excellent w/ the lamb - Pinot Noir has become my favorite red (as I've gotten older) - can go w/ about anything, but my FIRST choice w/ lighter red meats, salmon, & tuna - Dave

Bogey-I've been cooking whatever they'll let me!!!!  Actually I was staying with some good friends for a while who have people over for dinner every sunday so that was a good opportunity to cook a lot of stuff for a lot of people.  Some nice fresh pasta made for a great pasta amatraciana,  made a couple of nice quiches, one with chorizo and potato, one with oven dried tomatoes and tarragon,  Braised some oxtails one night and served some soft polenta with it.  Chili verde.  a whole lot of stuff!!!

Sonic- that is one fancy grill.  Yes you've assumed GB huh?  My friends are a little less polite about the title though.  it's still the GB but rather than Grill Boy it's always the Grill B*tch!!!  :o  (awesome mitts by the way)

Allan - ALL sounds great, but I know that my wife would 'die for' braised oxtails!  She's a BIG osso bucco fan! :)

We have natural gas in the house, so the grill could not be easier to use; did not add any of the fancier side burners - we kind of have a protein that I do on the grill & she makes a salad and/or veggie - quite simple 'team work' - although I had a ton of grilling books from the past, I decided to just go w/ one to avoid confusion, i.e. Steve Raichlen's The Barbecue Bible (over 500 pages - YIKES; I'll probably need just a couple dozen recipes until I'm in repeat mode) - ended up buying his mitts which are not that expensive on Amazon, and the separate fingers work well.  Dave
