I'm sorely tempted by some of the Audite reissues that proclaim proudly:

This CD forms part of our series "Legendary Recordings" and bears the stamp "1st Master Release". This term stands for the exceptional quality of audite's archive releases which are all, without exception, produced using original tapes from the radio archives. Usually, these are the original analogue tapes with tape speeds of up to 76 cm/s which are of astonishingly high quality, even by today's standards. In addition, the process of re-mastering – executed with professional expertise and sensitivity – reveals hitherto hidden details of the interpretations, creating a sonic image of superior quality. CD releases produced from private recordings of radio broadcasts or old 78rpm records cannot match this level of sound quality.

This sounds wonderful, and some of the repertoire they are issuing is very tempting to me, for example:

http://www.audite.de/en/product/CD/95590-christian_ferras_plays_beethoven_and_berg_violin_concertos.html

However, they are full price CDs and it is hard for me to justify the expenditure when I have shelves and shelves and shelves of LPs, hundreds of which I have never played at all, and in the case of the Beethoven violin concerto at least 12 different recordings already including this one on the original DG vinyl. So I am wondering if anyone here has bought any of these CDs and could comment on the sound quality.  Is it revelatory, in fact, something that would make me tear off the dog collar and dance an undignified jig, or just nice and clean but not worth ditching the original analogue LPs for?

Hey, you could take a gamble with the "Super Duper Incredibly Mind-boggling Cheap Bargains" people have been talking about in the past day and possibly get it for $1 + postage from Amazon. ;)

You're welcome. But better not have high hopes, as I haven't yet seen any reports of the seller actually shipping the products at the price; only forum discussions of people recounting their acts of splurging. This has been happening for just about a day (so mainly during the weekend, when they usually don't ship things out).

I warn you: don't do it, if you value life outside the Web. ;)

OK, I've stopped now, a 15 CD splurge.  As others have said it seems unlikely these will ship, although browsing the seller's other offerings I see there's a huge range of non-classical under a dollar a disc - it isn't as though everything was uniformly $1 which would suggest a computer error.  We shall see.
