I'm apologizing to anyone I may have offended over the storm.  :-[ :-* :D

First Sandy, now this.  Haven't a lot of good people suffered enough already?

It also makes a good argument for more urgent action on anthropogenic climate change, flood gates for NYC, etc, etc, etc: appropriate, positive action can reduce the likelihood of these types of events happening again.

One of my students went to NY after the conference in Baltimore and is stuck in NY. With tens of thousands of flight cancelled, he is still waiting for his flight to be rescheduled and he is, I think, out of money. I hope he can get home soon.

Oof. It's a good job you didn't try to take in Boston after Baltimore this trip, Paul.

You are right. I was right in the eye of a super typhoon earlier this year. One in a year... wait, one in a lifetime is plenty.

Next year's conferences are in San Diego and Pheonix. Looks like I will be mostly visiting the west coast next year, where they can be no super storms, only earthquakes, brush fires...
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Have you sent in your membership request form to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard? There are many benefits, like Stuxnet centrifuge insurance (I swear, my centrifuges were up and running in 2 weeks!). Alas, bomb and cruise missile coverage is way expensive.
